2008 Integrated Report to Congress on Water Quality in Kentucky (305[b] and 303[d] reports)

Kentucky has issued a two-volume report on the quality of water in the streams, lakes and reservoirs of all major river basins of the commonwealth. The 2008 report emphasizes two basin management units (BMUs) -- the Upper Cumberland/Four Rivers (Lower Cumberland, Mississippi, Ohio and Tennessee) and the Green/Tradewater rivers. The Integrated Report combines and replaces two reports – known in the field as 305(b) and 303(d) – that the federal Clean Water Act requires of all states.

Volume I, the 305(b) report, is available in its entirety here. It has also been divided into six separate PDF files, below, to aid in downloading.

IR Volume 1, part 1 - Table of Contents, Tables, Figures, Introduction, Background
IR Volume I, part 2  - Chapter 3 (3.1-3.2) - Surfacing Monitoring and Assessment
IR Volume 1, part 3 - Chapter 3 (3.3) - Assessment Results
IR Volume 1, part 4 - Appendix A - Statewide Assessment Results
IR Volume 1, part 5 - Appendix B - Reach Indexing Maps of Assessed Streams

2006 Integrated Report to Congress on Water Quality, formerly 305(b) and 303(d) Reports.

Kentucky issued a two-volume report on the quality of water in the streams, lakes and reservoirs of all major river basins of the commonwealth. The Integrated Report combines and replaces two reports – known in the field as 305(b) and 303(d) – that the federal Clean Water Act requires of all states.

Volume I, formerly the "305(b) report", has been broken into six separate PDF files to aid in downloading. You will need the free Adobe Acrobat Reader software to open these files (follow link on left).

2004 Report to Congress on Water Quality (305[b] Report).

The 2004 report satisfies requirements contained in Section 305(b) of the Clean Water Act for each state to submit a biennial report to Congress evaluating the quality of its streams, rivers and lakes. The Clean Water Act seeks to make the nation's waters "fishable and swimmable." The report assesses the extent to which the state's waters have attained that goal.

The 2004 report includes the fourth and fifth years of an intensive inter-agency watershed monitoring effort with the support of state, federal and local agencies. It covers monitoring in the Green/Tradewater unit and Big Sandy/Little Sandy/Tygarts unit. It also presents a summary of data from the entire state. This report includes results on all of Kentucky's major basins for the first time since the watershed approach was incorporated into DOW's monitoring plan. Data collected by the Ohio River Valley Water Sanitation Commission (ORSANCO) were used to make assessments for the main stem of the Ohio River.

Use Support Maps are available from this link.

Due to the size of this report, it has been broken down into the six parts listed below.

Part One - Table of Contents, Tables, Figures, Chapter One, Introduction; Chapter Two, Watershed Management Framework; and Chapter Three, Rivers and Streams
Part Two - Chapter Four, Lakes and Reservoirs, first half
Part Three - Chapter Four, Lakes and Reservoirs, second half
Part Four - Chapter Five, Groundwater
Part Five - Appendix A. Reach Index Maps for Green River Basin, Tradewater River Basin and adjacent Ohio River Minor Tributaries
Part Six - Appendix B. Reach Index Maps for Big Sandy River Basin, Little Sandy - Tygarts Basin and adjacent Ohio River Minor Tributaries

2002 Report to Congress on Water Quality (305[b] Report).

The report satisfies requirements contained in Section 305(b) of the Clean Water Act for each state to submit a biennial report to Congress evaluating the quality of its streams, rivers and lakes. The Clean Water Act seeks to make the nation's waters "fishable and swimmable." The report assesses the extent to which the state's waters have attained that goal.

The 2002 report includes the second and third years of an intensive inter-agency watershed monitoring effort with the support of state, federal and local agencies. It focuses attention on the Salt/Licking River Basin Unit and the Cumberland/Tennessee/Mississippi Unit of the Watershed Management Framework. It also presents a summary of data from the entire state. Use Support Maps are available from this link. Therefore, this report includes results not only of three years of intensive watershed data collection but also data collected prior to 1998 in the two basin management units that have not yet been sampled intensively (Green/Tradewater unit and Big Sandy/Little Sandy/Tygarts unit). Data collected by the Ohio River Valley Water Sanitation Commission (ORSANCO) were used to make assessments for the main stem of the Ohio River.

2000 Report to Congress on Water Quality (305[b] Report)

Use Support Maps are available for the 2000 Kentucky River Basin.  The use support maps have been revised using 24K coverages and including all use categories. The maps included in the original 2000 report were derived from 100K coverages and only illustrate overall use support.

The report satisfies requirements for 2000 contained in Section 305(b) of the Clean Water Act for each state to submit a biennial report to Congress evaluating the quality of its streams, rivers and lakes. The Clean Water Act seeks to make the nation's waters "fishable and swimmable." The report assesses the extent to which the state's waters have attained that goal.

The 2000 report includes the first year of an inter-agency watershed monitoring effort with the support of state, federal and local agencies. Other than the main stem of the Ohio River, it presents assessments only of waters in the Kentucky River Basin.

The information submitted to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency is usually prepared in a narrative format; however, in April 2000, electronic data were submitted rather than the usual narrative. This report was prepared to give highlights of the data. It is also available as a paper copy. ______________________________________________________________
