Nonpoint Source
The Kentucky Nonpoint Source Pollution Control Program seeks projects to compete for funding. Grants are available for watershed based plan development and implementation, protection of Special Use Waters with identified threats, as well as other nonpoint source (NPS) pollution control projects to help mitigate or prevent runoff pollution. Funds can be used to pay for 60 percent of the total cost for each project; a 40 percent nonfederal match is required.
Priority consideration will be given to applications for watershed based plan development and implementation in 303(d) listed streams and protection of threatened Special Use Waters. Up to $2.7 million in federal financial assistance is available. The NPS grant provides an opportunity to put substantial resources into watershed remediation projects.
Attention Potential Grant Applicants!
The Section 319(h) Nonpoint Source Pollution Control Implementation Grant process has CHANGED.
Previously, we have requested Initial Interest Forms by mid-February with a deadline for application to be submitted in mid-May. After reviewing and ranking eligible applications, we submitted all applications to EPA, awaited approval, wrote a Memorandum of Agreement and awarded funds. This process resulted in long delays in contractors receiving funds. Often this delay caused serious problems for our contractors and consequently our program. After much discussion and discernment, we have revised our process to better service the needs of our contractors and our program.
Effectively immediately the Kentucky §319(h) grant program will:
- submit a general application to EPA prior to receiving applications from potential contractors.
- will accept Initial Interest Forms throughout the year.
- provide better customer service through timely responses, as well as increased communication and cooperation opportunities.
- work with potential contractors to develop applications that meet the needs of our program.
- award grant funds in a manner that assures project timelines will successfully be met.
Check back on this site frequently for updated information on public meetings to further explain the new process. If you have questions contact Paulette Akers, Nonpoint Source Section supervisor, at 502-564-3410 or Paulette.Akers@ky.gov. Substantial changes have been made in the Grant Guidance. Please read the document before submitting your Initial Interest Form.
Instructions for applying for the NPS grant are available on the Grant Application Information page.
