The Permit Review Section implements the Groundwater Protection Plan Program and the Wellhead Protection Program.

GROUNDWATER PROTECTION PLANS
The Permit Review Section is responsible for implementation of the groundwater protection regulation 401 KAR 5:037 that requires persons engaging in activities that have the potential to pollute groundwater to develop and implement a Groundwater Protection Plan (GPP).

The Permit Review Section also provides technical assistance to the regulated public concerning development of GPPs and has developed a guidance document, Preparing a Groundwater Protection Plan, to help you develop a GPP.

WELLHEAD PROTECTION
Kentucky's Wellhead Protection Program (WHPP) is coordinated by the Groundwater Branch and is regulated through the Water Supply Planning Regulation 401 KAR 4:220.

The Groundwater Branch provides technical and educational assistance to public water systems required to develop Wellhead Protection Plans. A guidance document for Wellhead Protection is available from the branch.
