The Groundwater Branch monitors and assesses the quality of groundwater throughout Kentucky by collecting water samples from wells and springs. These samples are routinely analyzed for metals, nutrients, pesticides and other substances to characterize and understand this important resource.
Monitoring Projects
The Technical Services Section of the Groundwater Branch conducts a variety of groundwater monitoring projects throughout the state. Groundwater monitoring is an important tool necessary for understanding and managing this vital resource.

The Groundwater Branch has prepared numerous publications, posters and maps regarding groundwater quality in Kentucky.
General Groundwater Reports
In addition to publications concerning groundwater quality, the Groundwater Branch has prepared publications, posters and maps regarding groundwater flow, quantity and classification in Kentucky.
Groundwater Quality Index
The Division of Water has developed a groundwater quality index to evaluate overall water quality at monitoring sites and track overall water quality over time. The groundwater quality index provides a tool for summary assessment of water quality at a well, spring, or for an entire site or region.
