Certification of Laboratories

Download a map with the locations and contact information for all of the microbiology laboratories certified to perform bacteriological testing on drinking water samples in Kentucky. The map indicates which labs submit electronically.

The Water Testing Laboratory at Morehead State University (MSU) oversees the Laboratory Certification Program for the Environmental and Public Protection Cabinet. The cabinet is required by federal regulation to maintain a certification program for all public water systems or commercial laboratories performing microbiological analysis of drinking water. For more information, contact Ted Pass or Rita Wright at MSU at 606-783-2961 or 606-783-2962.

Microbiology information from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) 

Approved Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) methods related to bacteria, viruses and protozoans can be found at this site.  In addition, there is a publication listing EPA-supported research in environmental microbiology. 

EPA's Laboratory Certification Web site provides information about the Drinking Water Laboratory Certification program. The EPA Labcert Bulletin is also available here.

Waterborne Pathogens and the CDC

The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) provides information on selected waterborne diseases in the United States and safe water information for immunocompromised persons and other vulnerable groups. The Division of Parasitic Diseases has a Web site dedicated to drinking water.
